- Advanced Disaster Medicine and Management is a high intensity 5+ day expedition during which the topics from the Fundamental Disaster Medicine and Management curriculum are upgraded and practiced in multiple high-fidelity, extended-duration disaster simulations. In each extended-duration evolution, teams plan for, execute, and manage different disaster scenarios. At the conclusion of each evolution, team and expert debriefs solidify best practices, strengthen leadership skills, and promote effective team dynamics and leadership. (72 hours)
- Supplementing a WFR certification with Advanced Disaster Medicine and Management will result in the designation Wilderness First Responder—Disaster (WFR-D). Advanced Disaster Medicine and Management can be used to recertify an expiring Wilderness First Responder certification.
- FEMA ICS-100 and FEMA IS-700 certificates are required prior to the start of the course.
- Optionally, graduates may choose to certify in National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians’ Tactical Emergency Combat Care (NAEMT TECC®) following the course. TECC® compliments the course curriculum by training medical providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment, such as what could result from a large-scale urban disaster.
