Wilderness/Austere Medical Expedition

Started on April 24, 2024
  • The Wilderness/Austere Medical Expedition is a high intensity, 14+ day certification expedition combining the WFR course with all supplement courses offered by The 9 Line. Two days of didactic content precede an extended-stay wilderness expedition designed specifically to provide practice and experience in complex and extended situations. Interspersed within the expedition, multiple high-fidelity training simulations solidify best practices, strengthen decision-making skills, and reinforce effective team dynamics and leadership skills. (170+ hours)
  • Graduates receive certification as a Wilderness First Responder—Disaster/Marine (WFR-D/M), in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS®), both valid 2 years. WFR-D/M meets the requirements for a US Coast Guard Wilderness First Aid course. Wilderness/Austere Medical Expedition can be used to recertify all of The 9 Line certification offerings.
  • FEMA ICS-100 and FEMA IS-700 certificates are required prior to the start of the course.

  • Optionally, graduates may certify in National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians’ Tactical Emergency Combat Care (NAEMT TECC®) following the course. TECC® compliments the course curriculum by training medical providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment, such as what could result from a large-scale urban disaster.
