- Topics covered include trip planning and preparation, medical kit design and development, anatomy and physiology, systematic patient assessment, triage, common wilderness ailments, medical emergencies, wilderness medicine treatment protocols, extended patient management, improvisational skills, evacuation decision-making, international considerations, the psychology of survival, survival skills, fundamentals of SAR, and team leadership techniques. Graduates receive certification as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider (AHA BLS®). (70 hours)
- Optionally, graduates may also certify in American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (AHA PEARS®) following the conclusion of the course.
